During the eleventh edition of Dronitaly, to be held from March 11 to 13, 2026 at the EX-GAM Congress Center of BolognaFiere, SNPA – National System for Environmental Protection will organize the conference “The new 'eyes' of environmental monitoring: how technological innovation supports institutional Earth observation activities”, divided into two thematic sessions.
The two sessions will explore the new frontiers of environmental monitoring, with application examples of drone use for the acquisition and management of information to support institutional decision-making processes, following the operational chain from procedure management to surveying, data processing, and the delivery of the information product.
SNPA applications and experiences in collaboration with other stakeholders will be presented, paving the way for a national dialogue and comparison aimed at identifying synergies and integration of procedures, information, and skills.
FULL PROGRAM
March 11, 2026: 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Drones in the National Environmental Protection System: from data acquisition to the use of information for territorial monitoring and control.
Continuous technological developments in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) have made their use possible in support of the institutional activities of the National System for Environmental Protection (SNPA). Increased reliability and the availability of various types of sensors pave the way for multiple applications in the environmental field, improving monitoring capabilities by integrating traditional techniques based on field surveys and combined use with satellite data. The regional and provincial environmental protection agencies (ARPA/APPA) and the Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) have introduced UAS, with different operating methods, into institutional monitoring and control activities for measuring environmental parameters.
The session aims to provide a comprehensive and updated overview of the use of this technology within the SNPA and present several applications aimed at understanding the state of the environment, pressures, and impacts on various matrices. Data collected via UAS significantly contributes to the integration of information assets supporting decision-making processes, thanks to the timeliness and versatility of the survey, high resolution, and the ability to cover multiple operational scenarios.
March 12, 2026: 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Institutional synergies for the use of UAS in Italy: comparing expertise for environmental monitoring and control, research, and emergency support.
In recent years, the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) by Italian institutions has grown significantly, permeating key sectors such as applied research, environmental monitoring and control, and emergency management support. Various actors are developing skills, protocols, and support infrastructures across different application fields.
The session aims to open a dialogue between different institutional experiences in drone use, showcasing several successful cases of structured collaboration between public bodies, universities, research centers, and local and national authorities. Effective collaboration models will be presented, both in territorial control and monitoring activities, environmental emergency support, and research and innovation paths, where sectoral skills and peculiarities can mutually enrich one another.
Participate in Dronitaly 2026
From March 11 to 13, 2026, at the EX GAM, congress center of BolognaFiere, the eleventh edition of Dronitaly will take place, the only international event in Italy for professional civil drones.
A true strategic platform that brings together Italian and foreign companies during three days dedicated to exhibitions, conferences, technical tables and networking, to present the most advanced technologies and foster targeted B2B and B2G relationships for the development of new partnerships, projects, and market opportunities.
